jury duty

Image
I have been a licensed driver since 16, a registered voter since 18, a homeowner since 2008 and today was my first jury duty summons ever.  Entire jury duty experience. Take whole day off of work, mostly bc I had a great excuse to decline all of my meetings and get some things done that I choose to do. Show up at 1:00 p.m. as directed & sign in. Start a new book. Wait 40 minutes. Get dismissed because all the cases were resolved in some way without a jury trial.  Then I went to HEB and shopped like a rich, very high person. Frozen pizza, ice cream, almost ten dollars on one of my favorite very seasonal fruits, a tiny very heavy watermelon. Love Island themed Poppi for Kitty, and a Shirley Temple one for T. Four boxes of mochi ice cream bc there was a good coupon. Too many ice breaker mints (also coupon). Rice pudding and flan cups. One tomato, needed for dinner tonight.  But look!

What I want to say...

... to people in my Pilates class.  1. Good on you for bringing your own mat. There is a better way to roll it up at the end of class so that you don't struggle with the ends curling up next time.  2. There is in fact a right way and a wrong way to fold a yoga blanket that actually makes it better and easier to use, not just because I said so.

New Adventures!

It's the first summer Saturday for Elliott and also the first day he is attending the 9am adult black belt class!  No one else’s mom (or spouse or friend or kid…) is here so I’ll be dropping him off from now on. Tbh I planned on dropping him off and going to pilates most of the time but today I really had to work on a project and the studio has very strong wifi and I wouldn’t miss the time spent driving to a coffeeshop.

Memorial Day Ziplining

Image
I left work on Friday and thought we definitely need to do something fun this weekend! So I looked around, polled Elliott, and we picked ziplining on Memorial Day.  The place usually does groups of maybe 10? We ended up with a private tour, which I think had pros and cons. Pro, private tour. Con, the pace was a little breakneck, because we never had to wait for other people to go. So it was like, hike to the platform! Clip in! Jump off the platform! Clip out! Go go go!  All in all fun times! Then we had sushi bento in Bastrop.

Morning walks

Since we lost the dog around Xmas, I've needed to reset my walking schedule. And tbh, it's gotten a little easier with only one mammal to plan around. So most days I get out before 7am for a 30min loop. Another change of middle age is that I have often chafed against routine but this spring I said to myself, let's just try it where there are no thoughts or decisions or wondering. Just put clothes on, put shoes on, and walk the same loop.  It's not so bad.

We grew a plum!

It was very tasty! No worms in this one.

Still Life:Movie Night

We watched The Wild Robot and ate BBQ take out. The movie was lovely. We set out to watch Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die  so the vibe switch was a swerve, but altogether successful.
